A teaser clip for the upcoming documentary “Phil Lynott: Songs For While I’m Away” has just been released. The film follows the story of late Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott and his journey to becoming Ireland’s greatest rockstar. The full trailer is set to premiere on August 20.

The 20-second video below features the voice of Lynott recalling what his school principal told him. He said, “He goes, ‘What do you wanna do?’ Do you want a good, steady trade, a job? Or do you wanna be a dirty rock musician?” You can watch it below.

According to the news release, “As the lead singer of Thin Lizzy, Phil Lynott was a songwriter, a poet, a dreamer, a wildman. Told extensively through the words of Phil himself and focusing on some of his iconic songs, the film gets to the heart of Philip, the father, the husband, the friend, the son, the rock icon, the poet and the dreamer.”

With documentary filmmaker Emer Reynolds at the helm, “Phil Lynott: Songs For While I’m Away” features interviews with other rock icons like U2’s Adam Clayton, Suzi Quatro, Huey Lewis, and Metallica’s James Hetfield along with Thin Lizzy band members.
