Written with songwriter Randy Goodrum, Steve Perry recorded “Foolish Heart” in one day with the legendary, Nashville- inspired songwriter and talent on keyboards. With just a 4- track tape player in Perry’s tiny writing room with a Fender-Rhodes and a little Linn machine, the unlikely pair’s combination resulted in the creation of four of Perry’s songs in just 4 days time.

After returning to the studio to record the demo for real, the two struggled to emulate the raw, beautiful quality that the 4- track recording held, until they eventually realized they needed the hired band to utilize the exact same interments as they had. Finally released in 1994, “Foolish Heart” reached #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the Adult Contemporary chart in February 1985.
