Selena Gomez Cast As Linda Ronstadt In New Biopic

Selena Gomez has officially secured the role of Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biographical film.

Speculation about Gomez’s casting began when she shared a photo on her Instagram featuring Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir, Simple Dreams. Currently in the pre-production phase, the movie will be overseen by Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan, along with James Keach.

As of now, no specific details about the film’s release date have been disclosed.

The Ending of A Journey

Linda Ronstadt retired from the music scene in 2011, later revealing her diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease in 2013, which led to her inability to sing. Her final album, Adieu False Heart, was released in 2006, and her last live performance occurred in 2019.

Speaking to The New Yorker in 2019, Ronstadt acknowledged her health challenges:

“I’ve just accepted it. There’s absolutely nothing I can do. I have a form of Parkinsonism that doesn’t respond to standard Parkinson’s meds, so there’s no treatment for what I have. It’s called P.S.P.—Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. I just have to stay home a lot. … My friends come over and play music, and that’s where I like it best, anyway: in the living room.”

Despite her health struggles, Ronstadt has remained creatively engaged. In 2022, she published another book, Feels Like Home: A Song for the Sonoran Borderlands, which combines memoir and cookbook elements, featuring recipes from her childhood. Ronstadt, like Gomez, shares Mexican heritage.

In a 2022 interview with Rock Cellar, she explained:

“I passed for white, growing up in Tucson when it was very segregated.
“My name; the way I look. So, this was a way for me to more deeply explore my Mexican heritage, and to help humanize a culture that is part of me and that I truly love.”
