Sammy Hagar and Metallica’s Kirk Hammett are cooking up something pretty wild—and it’s straight from the stars. The two rock legends have been talking about writing a new song together, and it already has a title: “The Seven Sisters.” Naturally, it’s got a supernatural twist, tied to Hagar’s longtime fascination with aliens and outer space.
“You know who’s a big fan of all of that? Kirk Hammett from Metallica,” Hagar revealed during a chat on the UCR Podcast. “We’re writing a song right now called ‘The Seven Sisters.’ Well, we’re not writing it [yet, but] we’re talking about writing it. ‘The Seven Sisters,’ which is the Pleiades, where a lot of these people are coming from.”
Hagar even hinted that the song might nod back to his 1976 solo track “Silver Lights,” saying, “For the ride out of the song, we’re going to go into [part of] ‘Silver Lights.’”
Sammy’s Lifelong Obsession with Aliens
Sammy Hagar’s love of all things extraterrestrial goes way back. He’s no stranger to writing songs inspired by the stars. With Van Halen, he co-wrote “Love Walks In,” a hit packed with cosmic imagery. Long before that, he was already exploring space themes in songs like “Silver Lights” and “Space Station No. 5,” from his Montrose days in 1974.
Hagar’s belief in alien life isn’t just casual—it’s personal. “I’m a firm believer – I have seen, have felt, have been contacted three or four different times,” he told Guitar World. “I have received information that has been valuable in my life from those people, and they have used me. I’m gonna sound like a complete nut here, but they have used me in an experimental fashion. The easiest way to put it is that they downloaded my brain information.”
Kirk Hammett’s Love of the Unknown
Kirk Hammett isn’t new to this world of wonder either. Known for his love of horror films and the supernatural, he’s long been fascinated by the mysteries beyond Earth. In a 2022 interview with UCR, he shared how seeing “2001: A Space Odyssey” as a young kid opened his mind.
“When that movie came out, my dad took me to see it in a movie theater and I was only six or seven years old!” Hammett said. “I didn’t understand a lot of it, but the mood of it, the atmosphere of it and the music made a really big impression on me.”
What’s Next for Sammy Hagar?
While fans are eager to hear what Hagar and Hammett create, they’ll have to wait a little longer. Right now, Hagar is getting ready for his Best of All Worlds residency in Las Vegas, which kicks off on April 30 and runs through May.
Still craving new tunes from the Red Rocker? Hagar recently dropped “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight,” a heartfelt song inspired by a dream he had about his late friend and bandmate, Eddie Van Halen. Stay tuned—more cosmic vibes could be on the way soon!
