Last month, Roger Waters wrote an open letter addressed to the First Lady of Ukraine. The former Pink Floyd frontman was asking that she and her husband “stop the slaughter” by surrendering the territories that Russia had gained control of in the current war.
Following the first letter, Waters then penned a second letter addressed to the Russian president Vladimir Putin asking him to promise not to “overrun the whole of Europe.” Now, Waters is claiming that he is included in the “kill list supported by the Ukraine government.”
In a recent interview, the singer supported his statement with his evidences. He said:
“You’ve seen it on what I’ve just described to you as western propaganda. It’s exactly the obverse of saying, Russian propaganda, Russians interfered with our election, Russians did that. It’s all lies, lies, lies, lies.”
Waters also stated:
“I’m on the fucking list and they’ve killed people recently. There was that young Dugina woman in Paris who I think they were trying to bomb her father. No, in Moscow. They were trying to bomb her father-in-law [her father] and they killed her. But when they kill you, they write liquidated across your picture. Well, I’m one of those fucking pictures.”
In contrary to that, the list that Waters is referring to is “maintained by a far-right Ukrainian organization that contains hundreds of thousands of enemies of Ukraine” according to the Rolling Stones. The list is not a “kill list,” but a place for “information for law enforcement authorities and special services.”
Meanwhile, Waters is still continuously doing his This Is Not a Drill solo tour. However, an announcement made in the past saying that the Poland dates are already cancelled had began to form speculations. People believed that the cancellation is a result of backlash to Waters’ public letters.
Live Nation Poland already confirmed that the shows are canceled. Waters, on the other hand, responded to disagree with the rumors saying that he canceled the shows himself.
