It marked a shift in his sound towards synthpop and new wave, and had the first music video on MTV to contain breakdancing. For a song about teenage rebellion, suddenly this classic becomes Rod’s own anthem for rebellion and breaking new ground!
In 2014, Rod introduced ‘Young Turks’ to fans new and old when he performed at Chile’s Viña del Mar Festival, and in true Rod fashion, brought along an assortment of fun backup dancers, singers, and an amazing backup band to deliver one of the most powerhouse performances of his entire career.
Fun Fact: The words “young Turks” are never said in the song.
