The lineup for the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees has been revealed.
Among the nominees are familiar names like Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. & Rakim, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Jane’s Addiction, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinead O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne, Sade, and A Tribe Called Quest.
Notably, Carey, Cher, Foreigner, Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Kravitz, Oasis, O’Connor, Osbourne, and Sade are all first-time contenders for the honor.
The winners will be announced in late April.
Criticism From the Nominees
Some of the nominees have previously expressed their reservations about being considered for induction into the hall.
Cher, for instance, bluntly stated her stance last December, saying:
“I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars. I’m never changing my mind.”
Although Osbourne has already been inducted as part of Black Sabbath, he has long shown disinterest in the recognition.
In a statement dating back to 1999, he remarked:
“Just take our name off the list. The nomination is meaningless to me because it’s not voted on by the fans but by the supposed elite of the industry and media.”
Despite Osbourne’s reluctance, his wife, Sharon Osbourne, has advocated for his inclusion as a solo artist, citing his significant album sales.
Similar to last year, the induction ceremony will be streamed on Disney+, with an ABC broadcast scheduled for a later date. The event will be held in Cleveland, Ohio.
