Watch Robert Plant Perform ‘Ramble On’ in Special Late Show Appearance
Society of Rock
A return to television often brings nostalgia, but when Robert Plant stepped onto the stage of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on April 8, the focus was not on revisiting the past exactly as it was. Instead, the performance highlighted how his music continues to evolve. Joined by Saving Grace, Plant delivered a set that balanced reinterpretation with new material, following a recent stretch of North American tour dates that ended in New York.
This appearance marked his second visit to the program in recent months, after performing there in November. With the show approaching its final episodes, the timing added another layer to the event, offering viewers a moment that combined long-standing music history with the closing chapter of a popular television series.
Reworking a Familiar Song
The performance opened with “Ramble On,” a track originally released in 1969 on Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin. Rather than reproducing the original version, Plant and his band reshaped the song into a more restrained arrangement. The new version leaned on softer instrumentation and allowed greater space for vocal expression, reflecting the direction Plant has taken in recent years.
This approach has become central to Saving Grace’s live shows. Songs such as “The Rain Song” and “Friends” have also been reinterpreted with a lighter, more acoustic sound. By adjusting these well-known tracks, the group presents them in a way that connects with current audiences while still acknowledging their origins.
Continuing a Global Schedule
Following the television performance, Plant and Saving Grace are preparing for an international run of concerts. The schedule begins in South America with two shows in Buenos Aires, followed by dates in Córdoba and Rosario. Additional performances in Brazil are planned, including stops in Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo.
The tour will then move to Europe during the summer, where the band is set to perform at venues including Saint Michael’s Fortress in Šibenik, Croatia. Further concerts are scheduled across Turkey, Bulgaria, and Greece, continuing Plant’s steady presence on the live circuit.
