We Can’t Wait

Back in June, Robert Plant revealed why he loves working with backing band The Sensational Space Shifters. He said, “In the last 18 years I must have spent 14 of them in the company of these guys. … We have an inherent capacity to start a new project and know that we have business to do. And so there’s drama, there’s emotion, there’s what I’d like to think is a very, very broad landscape of varied music within what we do, woven together with lyric and melody which has to be appropriate for somebody at my time in the game.”

A few days ago, he admitted that he has around 40 different instrumental ideas for a possible follow-up to 2017’s Carry Fire. And in the latest episode of his Digging Deep podcast, Plant shares his thoughts about a third album with Sensational Space Shifters. According to Plant, “Each guy in our cooperative creates ideas and send them to me, or to each other. … There’s a lot of sketches. Some of them are black and white, some of them are going into color. And that’s how all these songs are developed.”

He adds, “All musicians are faced with the prospect of, where’s the awkward, the impossible third album? Where’s the impossible 23rd album? You have to find a groove and get started.”
