Frightened Rabbit Frontman Meets Tragic End
We so hoped for a different ending to this story but sadly, our worst fears have come true.
Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison was found dead after going missing in Edinburgh, Scotland earlier this week. He was 36. His bandmates took to social media about an hour ago to announce the tragic news via a brief statement expressing their collective grief and shock at their friend and brother’s sudden passing.
“There are no words to describe the overwhelming sadness and pain that comes with the death of our beloved Scott but to know he is no longer suffering brings us some comfort. Reading messages of support and hope from those he has helped through his art has helped immensely and we encourage you to keep doing this.”
The statement continues, saying, “He will be missed by all of us and his absence will always be felt but he leaves a legacy of hope, kindness, and colour that will forever be remembered and shared. Rest peacefully Scott. Much love, Grant, Billy, Andy and Simon x”.
Hutchison, 36, had long suffered from depression and anxiety – themes that were prevalent in the songs he wrote for Scottish indie band Frightened Rabbit, formed in Selkirk, Scotland in 2013. Before he disappeared, Hutchison posted two cryptic updates to Twitter, alarming friends, family and fans.
The first one, posted at 2:50pm on May 8th, reads:
“Be so good to everyone you love. It’s not a given. I’m so annoyed that it’s not. I didn’t live by that standard and it kills me. Please, hug your loved ones.”
Almost 20 minutes later, Hutchison posted again. This time, his words were brief.
“I’m away now. Thanks.”
Last seen at 1am early on the morning of 9 May leaving a hotel in South Queensferry, Hutchison’s family and friends launched a search for the 36-year-old singer songwriter. Early this morning police confirmed they had discovered a body at 8:30pm last night in the Port Edgar region near South Queensferry; the body has since been confirmed as Hutchison’s.
In addition to the millions of Frightened Rabbit fans around the world to whom he brought comfort to even in the midst of his own darkness, Scott Hutchison is survived by an adoring family, and our hearts go out to them during this difficult time.
You rock. Each and every one of you, and you matter. If you or someone you know is struggling to make it to the next sunrise, you’re not alone. Please, please, please reach out and get help – it can, does, and will get better.
