The music world mourns the loss of Eric Carmen, the beloved lead singer of Raspberries and a solo sensation, who passed away at the age of 74 from unspecified causes.
His wife Amy posted on Carmen’s official website:
“It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen. Our sweet, loving, and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend. It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy.”
Born in Cleveland, Carmen co-founded Raspberries in 1970, a band that made waves with their power pop sound and scored a major hit with “Go All the Way” in 1972. Despite critical acclaim, Raspberries disbanded in 1975 after releasing four albums.
Carmen then embarked on a solo career, achieving success with his self-titled debut album in 1975, which included hits like “All By Myself” and “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again.” Although subsequent albums didn’t match the same level of success, Carmen continued to pursue his passion for music.
In 1985, Carmen returned to the spotlight with “I Wanna Hear It From Your Lips,” followed by his iconic contribution to the Dirty Dancing soundtrack with “Hungry Eyes” in 1987. Another hit, “Make Me Lose Control,” solidified his place in music history.
While Carmen occasionally resurfaced in the music scene, including a stint with Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band in 2000, he mostly remained out of the public eye.
His wife, Amy, shared the news of his passing on Carmen’s official website, remembering him as a sweet, loving, and immensely talented individual whose music will continue to touch the hearts of fans for generations to come.
