I don’t know of any other song that makes you come away thinking that you can accomplish anything in the world quite like ‘We Are The Champions’ does. Freddie Mercury was a man with big dreams and an even bigger drive to be the best – needless to say, he succeeded tenfold.

‘We Are The Champions’ is an anthem for the ages, used to inspire everyone – from athletes and their roaring crowds, to anyone who’s ever been an underdog but knows that something great lies just beyond the horizon.

Beginning at his piano, Freddie grabs his mic at around 2:00 and heads for the edge of the stage, leading Queen’s massive audience in a rousing chorus that makes you want to sing along in triumph. Of what? Who knows – better yet, who cares? Freddie’s impassioned, modern take on Frank Sinatra’s ‘I Did It My Way’ is enough to send chills down even the most hardened of spines.

This isn’t a boast on behalf of the band. “We” refers to everyone who is singing along at that time. The same holds true for its counterpart, ‘We Will Rock You’.

If Freddie believed in the potential of people he’d never meet, then surely that’s the only vote of confidence anyone needs!
