In the most recent episode of the monthly series The Greatest, Queen shared their exclusive practice footage from a concert they performed in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 2012.
The fourth episode, which featured a behind-the-scenes look at Queen’s rehearsal process, features archival footage of Brian May and Roger Taylor working through the band’s 1975 hit “39” during a sound check. This footage was intercut with clips from the subsequent live performance.
As part of a benefit concert for the Elena Pinchuk ANTIAIDS Foundation with a performance by Elton John, the June 30, 2012 event at Kyiv’s Independence Square featured more than 350,000 fans in addition to a TV audience of millions of people. It also served as singer Adam Lambert’s full concert debut with the band.
In an earlier episode of Queen’s The Greatest, Adam noted:
“There was this spirit of brotherhood.
“It was an instant sense of comfort and ease that we all had. We all got a kick out of each other. It felt like the right fit.”
Queen and Lambert, who initially teamed up for a six-show run of live dates in 2012, have toured together ever since. Their most recent one was The Rhapsody Tour, which concluded last summer. Watch their newly-released video below.
