Renowned singer and guitarist Peter Frampton expressed his surprise at being chosen for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Frampton confessed to Billboard following the announcement of his induction:
“I think I’m a little bit in shock, and speechless.
“I never expected this. People always said, ‘You should be in.’ I said, ‘Eh, what is to be,’ y’know? So mixed emotions, because it’s something that I just never expected, whereas other people did for me. (laughs) It’s wonderful.”
With a career spanning over six decades, Frampton has left an indelible mark on the rock scene. From his early days with Humble Pie to the monumental success of 1976’s Frampton Comes Alive!, he has consistently carved his own path in the industry.
Throughout his journey, Frampton has cultivated a devoted fan base, evident in his strong showing in this year’s Hall of Fame fan voting, where he garnered 528,000 votes, second only to Dave Matthews Band. Frampton admitted:
“You never quite know how you are regarded.
“I don’t think about that; I just do my thing. But ending up in the number two position blew me away, actually. It’s an honor people regard me in this way. I’m just honored and blown way.”
Potential Collaborators for Peter Frampton at the Hall of Fame Ceremony
Despite being eligible since 1998, Frampton found himself a first-time nominee this year. “Wait, you mean I’m not already in the Rock Hall?” the singer joked upon the initial announcement of the 2024 nominees. Later, he expressed being “thrilled” at the consideration, acknowledging that many of his friends have said he should have already been inducted a long time ago.
Among those friends is Sheryl Crow, who performed alongside Frampton at her own Hall induction in 2023. Frampton is eager to reciprocate the gesture. “I’m thinking about people to invite to play with me and all that kind of stuff,” he says, with Crow being at the top of his list.
