Paul Stanley Gets 1 Of 1 Custom Guitar From Youtuber Guitar Builders

What began as a routine furniture commission became one of Black Forest Wood Co.’s most ambitious projects to date. The team never expected that a simple dining table order would lead to the creation of a custom electric guitar for Paul Stanley, one of rock music’s most iconic singers and guitarists. What followed were months of problem-solving, long hours, anxiety, and pride—culminating in a moment none of them would forget.

Initially, the guitar had nothing to do with Stanley. John and the Black Forest Wood Co. crew were developing an electric guitar–building course for their store and needed a sample instrument to show students what was possible. They selected a striking piece of maple burl, confident that its dramatic grain would immediately draw attention. The plan was for the guitar to remain on display at the front of the shop as inspiration.

That changed when the team learned the dining table they were building was for Paul Stanley himself. The idea of gifting him a guitar felt instantly right. Instead of keeping the instrument as a demo, they decided to give it away. At the time, no one imagined the guitar would end up in the hands of a rock legend. The maple burl body was assembled using resin during a live demonstration for visiting woodworkers. The resin filled the burl’s natural voids, creating a bold visual effect that would later glow under a high-gloss finish. At that stage, the guitar’s outline was only loosely sketched onto the wood.

Precision, Patience, and Craftsmanship

The most technical phase of the build began with CNC machining. The crew carefully tested each step, producing sample cuts to confirm the accuracy of the neck pocket, hardware placement, and body contours. They understood that any mistake at this point could undo weeks of work, so every measurement was double-checked before moving forward.

Once confident, they committed to the final piece. The CNC machine ran for hours, shaping the body, control cavities, and pickup routes. Although the process appears quick in time-lapse footage, shaping the guitar’s top required extensive machining and refinement. After removing the jig, the team began sanding and added a custom bevel along the top edge. Rather than copying a traditional Les Paul design, they opted for a dramatic, angled top that highlighted the layers of wood and resin. Power tools removed the bulk of the material, while hand tools and sanding refined the shape into a smooth, clean form.

LED-cured glue allowed the team to work efficiently while filling even the smallest imperfections in the wood. As the body came together, attention shifted to the neck. The fretboard was crafted from thick Indian ebony, a premium material typically reserved for high-end guitars. A precision jig ensured the fret slots were cut accurately for proper spacing and scale length.

Fret installation was a slow and meticulous process. Each fret was trimmed, pressed, leveled, and polished. The edges were softened to ensure a comfortable feel, while the fretboard itself was left unfinished and polished until it felt glass-smooth. The neck received a satin finish, was dyed black, and lightly sanded to add depth. Multiple thin coats of LED oil were applied, resulting in a professional, understated finish.

The guitar body evolved alongside the neck, with a polished front and a satin-finished back. Achieving the gloss required adapting furniture-polishing techniques during the build. The body was wet-sanded and polished until it gleamed once cured. Hardware choices were equally deliberate: Grover tuners, Seymour Duncan pickups, and TonePros bridge components were selected for reliability and tone. Nickel hardware added a warm, vintage character that would age gracefully.

The Reveal and a Lasting Impact

Wiring the electronics proved to be one of the most challenging steps. With soldering not being the team’s strongest skill, every connection was carefully checked, and one small mistake was corrected along the way. When everything finally came together, the guitar came to life.

Personal touches elevated the instrument further. Custom cover plates were fabricated from Coca-Cola aluminum, one stamped with “01” to signify Black Forest Wood Co.’s first electric guitar. The logo was kept minimal and placed on the back to preserve a clean front appearance. Final setup—tuning, intonation adjustment, and string height—completed the instrument. For the builder, the project carried deep personal meaning. He had played guitar since childhood and had long dreamed of building a Les Paul–style instrument. Knowing it was destined for Paul Stanley made the experience extraordinary.

On delivery day, the team traveled to Stanley’s home to install the dining table, keeping the guitar hidden. After the table was set, they revealed the surprise. When Stanley opened the case, the reaction was immediate—astonishment, excitement, and genuine appreciation. He praised the wood, body shape, neck profile, and overall comfort.

Stanley immediately focused on the neck, remarking that it felt better than some vintage Les Pauls from the 1960s. He complimented the balance, beveled edge, and contoured back, discussed string gauges, and mentioned that his child was also an accomplished guitarist. Most importantly, he emphasized that the guitar would be played, not simply displayed.

By the end of the visit, the builder felt an overwhelming sense of pride. Receiving such a positive response from a childhood hero was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Stanley continued praising the instrument and said he didn’t want to put it down.

The project concluded with gratitude on all sides. The table was delivered on time, the guitar was a resounding success, and the team felt they had created something truly special. For Black Forest Wood Co., the experience went far beyond building a guitar—it was a testament to passion, craftsmanship, and the rare opportunity to give back to someone who had inspired them from the very beginning.
