Tell Me Love Is Real!

“Words of Love” was written and originally recorded by Buddy Holly. It was released on June 20, 1957 and although it wasn’t a smashing success for him, it was still widely considered as one of his most loved songs. It has also been included in his compilation albums.

Holly harmonized for himself, by tape-recording each part and combining them.

The Beatles recorded their cover version on October 18, 1964 and released it on December 4 of the same year. Though this has been the ONLY Buddy Holly track that the band recorded, they have performed several of his songs live. Aside from a vocal overdub, they only had two takes to complete this.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney, who were fans of Holly, harmonized on their version, holding to the vocal and instrumental sound of Holly’s original as well as they could.

In this video, Paul McCartney plays an acoustic version of this Holly classic as a tribute to one of his idols. It was a clip taken from the movie “The Real Buddy Holly Story”.
