Wise Words!

Noel and Liam Gallagher have both said some pretty outrageous remarks in the past. In fact, the two have been feuding for years now: think of the 2009 incident when they engaged in a violent and controversial altercation backstage which lead to the band’s splitting up. But if you can remember back in 1996 when they were at the peak of their careers as members of the band Oasis, Noel (who claimed he was high at the time) told MTV that they were bigger than The Beatles. And that, according to Paul McCartney, is the biggest mistake he has ever made.

“Oasis were young, fresh and writing good tunes,” Paul told Britain’s Q magazine. “I thought the biggest mistake they made was when they said ‘We’re going to be bigger than The Beatles’.

“I thought ‘So many people have said that, and it’s the kiss of death.’ Be bigger than The Beatles, but don’t say it. The minute you say it, everything you do from then on is going to be looked at in the light of that statement.”

We can’t help but agree with Sir Paul. To be bigger than The Beatles, who happen to be the most legendary and iconic band in music history, is perhaps every musician’s goal. But when you start bragging about it in front of the world, well that’s an entirely different matter.
