See How They Run!

“Lady Madonna” was written by Paul McCartney though John Lennon contributed to the lyrics. This was released by The Beatles on March 15, 1968. The band recorded this bluesy number just before they went to India for some meditation study. It peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and also topped the UK Charts.

McCartney said of writing the song in a 1994 interview, “‘Lady Madonna’ was me sitting down at the piano trying to write a bluesy boogie-woogie thing … It reminded me of Fats Domino for some reason, so I started singing a Fats Domino impression. It took my other voice to a very odd place.”

The lyrics tell the story of an exhausted and overworked mother and how she faces various problems every single day of the week except Saturday. McCartney didn’t realize that until years later and to which he concluded, she could be having a good time on that particular day.

“I was writing the words out to learn it for an American TV show and I realised I missed out Saturday; I did every other day of the week, but I missed out Saturday. So I figured it must have been a real night out.” — Paul McCartney

This is one brilliant song!
