When asked to create his ultimate dream band, Ozzy Osbourne had some legendary musicians in mind. This question, posed during The Osbournes podcast by a viewer and read by Kelly Osbourne, saw the Black Sabbath frontman swiftly naming his ideal lineup.

“I’d have John Lennon, Paul McCartney, me, Jimi Hendrix,” stated Ozzy, with confidence.

However, he initially missed a crucial component: the drummer. Prompted by Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy took a moment before choosing Tommy Clufetos. This selection was met with approval from both Sharon and Jack Osbourne, with Jack noting, “That’d be quite the gig.”

Clufetos has a long history with Osbourne, having played drums in his solo band and filled in for Bill Ward during Black Sabbath’s final tour. His inclusion in Ozzy’s dream band underscores their strong musical connection.

Ozzy’s Enduring Love for The Beatles

Ozzy Osbourne’s admiration for The Beatles is well-documented. In a 2022 interview with Rolling Stone, he declared them his favorite artists, stating they are a staple in his daily listening. He even mentioned that “Darkside Blues” from his album Patient Number 9 is a conceptual homage to the Beatles’ runout groove on Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

In 2001, Ozzy attempted to get Paul McCartney to play bass on his song “Dreamer.” However, McCartney felt that Robert Trujillo’s bass track was too exceptional to replace. Ozzy told Classic Rock that The Beatles’ “She Loves You” was the song that changed his life, recalling:

“‘She Loves You’ had such an impact on me. I remember exactly where I was. I was walking down Witton Road in Aston, I had a blue transistor radio and when that song came on I knew from then on what I wanted to do with my life.”

This pivotal moment ignited Ozzy’s passion for music, making him a lifelong Beatles fan. He credits them with inspiring his career, saying:

“I owe my career to them because they gave me the desire to want to be in the music game.”

Ozzy’s homage to The Beatles continued with his cover of “In My Life” on his Under Cover album. Earlier this year, he shared on The Osbournes podcast:

“I’m a big Beatle fan and when I first met Paul McCartney, it was like meeting Jesus Christ.”

Reflecting on McCartney’s kindness, Ozzy added:

“He was a very nice man. And when I got a Grammy, he followed up with my producer to congratulate me. That was very, very special.”

Ozzy Osbourne’s dream band reflects his deep respect for his musical heroes, blending iconic figures with personal connections to create a lineup that truly embodies his musical journey.
