Kiss File Strange New Trademark Bid

KISS just embarked on a brand new trademark quest, but fans are wondering if this might be a hint of what’s to come. The New York City rock legends have sparked rumors that retirement is imminent after news broke of KISS’  attempt to trademark the phrase “The End of the Road,” submitted on February 8th to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

While KISS have neither confirmed any retirement plans or commented on their attempt to trademark “The End of the Road,” this is definitely something worth keeping an eye on; judging by the document obtained by Ultimate Classic Rock, if the trademark request is approved then only KISS would able to use it in connection with “live performances by a musical band.”

If this is the proverbial end of the road for KISS, it’s not entirely a surprise. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley have made it clear that not only would KISS not go on forever – it couldn’t. “[W]e’re not gonna be able to do it into our 70s, and I’m 67 now,” admitted Simmons. “We’ll do it for a few more years, and then when we think it’s time to go, we’ll go, and we’ll do it the right way, with a big party. I’d like to think that we would do something that rocks the planet — something big and worldwide and maybe free.”

Stanley, 66, is in the same boat – with a wife and small children at home and his role as a husband and father growing with each passing year, naturally, he’d like to be home as much as possible. “I don’t want to go leave home. I have a family and I have children and, honestly, I think my primary responsibility is to be a dad, and I don’t want to miss out on that. And certainly, as we got older, we know that life is finite and I pick and choose what I want to do at this point.”

With speculation looming this largely over KISS’ latest trademark attempt, you can bet your bottom dollar you’ll be hearing about this from the band itself at some point in the near future.
