Incident in New York and Immediate Aftermath

On April 17, 1983, Pappalardi was shot inside his Manhattan apartment during an incident involving his wife, Gail Collins Pappalardi, who was also a musician and collaborator in his earlier career Reports from the time stated that the shooting followed an argument after which he was struck by a bullet from a firearm owned in the household Emergency services responded quickly but he was pronounced dead at the scene or shortly after arrival at hospital at the age of 43 Gail Collins Pappalardi later told investigators the shooting was accidental but she was arrested and charged in connection with his death
