Since the lockdown, Neil Young has been a gift that keeps on giving.

The legendary rocker is currently streaming a previously unreleased track “Goodbye Christians on the Shore”. It was recorded back in December 15, 1972 with the Stray Gators but hasn’t seen the light of day until 48 years later. Along with the lineup of drummer Kenny Buttery, bassist Tim Drummond, pianist Jack Nitzsche, guitarist Ben Keith, they finished the song before hitting the road for their Time Fades Away tour.

It’s featured on his new box set titled ” Archives Volume II: 1972–1976″ which had a limited release of 3,000 copies. It sold out instantly last month.

Young has promised that there will be a second pressing, out next year. Fans can listen to it digitally via his Neil Young Archives website – it’s normally only available to paid subscription but Young has waived the monthly fee until the end of 2020 as his special holiday gift to everyone.

Young told a fan, “Reprise did not press enough of these. Many people were disappointed after waiting for years…So I broke my word. You will be getting a certificate of authenticity indicating your set is among the initial 3,000 and the next run will have a slightly modified box graphic to distinguish it from the 3,000.”
