Nancy Wilson of Heart posted through her official Facebook page expressing her thoughts about the meaning of a Lifetime Achievement award for her. This took place after The Recording Academy announced the 2023 Special Merit Awards honorees.
The institution recently announced to the public that the following artists will be included in the list of Lifetime Achievement Awardees: Ma Rainey, Bobby McFerrin, Nirvana, Slick Rick ‘The Ruler,’ The Supremes, and lastly, Heart’s sisters Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson.
“I can hardly fathom the Lifetime Achievement Award is coming to me and my sister Ann,” said Nancy while also not forgetting her sister/bandmate. She then went on to say how special and momentous this achievement was for her. She added:
“It’s a deep acknowledgment for the nearly 50 years of our lives we put into this music. It is more than meaningful for both of us.”
“It speaks to the relevance of the songs themselves and what those songs continue to mean to our loyal and our new fans. And I hope it speaks to the new breed of amazing women who are now emerging in the world of rock – keeping it alive and kicking. And I plan to keep on kicking too,” Nancy said while trying to stress the importance of being a good example to fellow artists.
Last but most importantly, she expressed her gratitude towards her family, friends, bandmates, and their fans by saying:
“Thank you to my supportive blended family, our fans, our incredible players who’ve joined and continued on their own journey, and the Recording Academy / GRAMMYs! I love you.”
At the upcoming Special Merit Awards Ceremony during GRAMMY Week 2023, Ann and Nancy will be there in person to receive their special honorarium.
