Mike Campbell Shares a Song Full of Heart and Meaning

Mike Campbell is gearing up for another prolific year, with his band the Dirty Knobs set to release a new studio album, Mission of Mercy, on June 12. The project marks the group’s latest effort to build on the raw, roots-driven sound they’ve cultivated since their formation.
The album was produced by George Drakoulias and Martin Pradler, and features a pair of notable guest appearances from Kate Pierson and Morgane Stapleton. Campbell is joined in the Dirty Knobs by guitarist Chris Holt, bassist Lance Morrison, and drummer Steve Ferrone—the latter also a fellow alumnus of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
“Full-Throttle” Rock With New Creative Turns
Speaking in a press release, Campbell framed Mission of Mercy as both a continuation and an evolution of the band’s identity. “Mission of Mercy is an action-packed collection of tunes that continue the vibe we established as well as some new directions in the songwriting,” he said. “It’s full-throttle Knobs from start to finish and we look forward to playing these live this year.”
The album’s lead single, “I Remember,” offers an early glimpse into that balance between familiarity and forward momentum. While rooted in the band’s signature grit, the track hints at broader sonic ambitions that could define this new era of the Dirty Knobs.
Tour Plans and a Symphonic Tribute
In addition to the album rollout, Campbell is preparing for a busy touring schedule. He and the Dirty Knobs will hit the road for an extensive summer run beginning July 7, bringing their latest material directly to audiences across multiple cities.
One of the year’s standout moments is set for September 12 in Atlanta, where Campbell will perform alongside the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The concert will spotlight the enduring catalog of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, blending rock staples with orchestral arrangements in what promises to be a unique reinterpretation of a classic songbook.
