Metallica is proving once again that heavy metal can have a heart. The legendary rock band, along with its charitable foundation All Within My Hands  (AWMH), has teamed up with the American Red Cross for a powerful mission—encouraging fans to donate blood during the band’s ongoing U.S. “M72” world tour. And the results are already making a huge difference.

A Lifesaving Mission on Tour

Just over a month ago, Metallica launched a series of special blood drives in cities across their U.S. tour route. Fans, also known as the Metallica Family, showed up in full force—rolling up their sleeves and showing their support. As of this week, the campaign has reached a major milestone: more than 1,000 blood donations collected so far.

Each of those donations can help save multiple lives, and the band’s partnership is making an impact. “The Red Cross appreciates the impact this partnership has made in the lives of people in trauma situations, and those facing cancer and chronic conditions, like sickle cell disease,” said Darren Irby, executive director of national partnerships for the Red Cross. He also added:

“Not only are donors who give regularly coming to give at these blood drives, but we are welcoming many new donors who have never given before — a true sign of how Metallica and All Within My Hands are inspiring people to give back across the country.”

T-Shirts, Tunes, and Goodwill

The band’s All Within My Hands foundation is known for giving back to every city it visits, and this blood drive campaign is just the latest example. Fans in upcoming stops like Houston, Santa Clara, and Denver still have a chance to participate. And as a special thank-you, all donors at these drives will receive a limited-edition Red Cross x Metallica t-shirt—while supplies last.

For fans interested in donating, appointments can be made at RedCrossBlood.org/Metallica.

The Legacy of Metallica and AWMH

Formed in 1981 by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, Metallica has grown into one of the biggest and most respected rock bands on the planet. With Kirk Hammett on guitar and Robert Trujillo on bass, the band has sold nearly 125 million albums, racked up over 17 billion streams, and played for fans on all seven continents. Over 1.3 million of those fans belong to the band’s loyal Fifth Member club.

Metallica’s discography includes classic multi-platinum albums like Kill ‘Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, …And Justice For All, and The Black Album, among others. Their most recent release, 72 Seasons, dropped in April 2023 and earned them a Grammy.

In 2017, the band founded All Within My Hands to formalize their efforts in giving back. Since then, AWMH has raised over $20 million—including $11.4 million for workforce education, $7.4 million to fight hunger, and $5.2 million to support critical services globally.

A Powerful Collaboration with the Red Cross

The American Red Cross is one of the most vital nonprofits in the country, responsible for sheltering disaster victims, supplying around 40% of the nation’s blood, and offering emergency aid and training. Their work wouldn’t be possible without volunteers and the support of everyday Americans.

Thanks to Metallica and AWMH, thousands of lives are being impacted—not just through music, but through meaningful acts of service. This partnership is more than a good deed—it’s a movement.
