Metallica took over the ballpark
Every year, the San Francisco Giants dedicate one home game each season to local Bay-area rock legends, Metallica. The tradition started up during the 2012 season, and every year since, the band basically has one night where they take over the ballpark and offer fans the chance to get up close and personal with them.
This year, the band returned for the 5th annual “Metallica Night” and participated in a bunch of ballpark activities! Lars Ulrich threw out the ceremonial first pitch, Robert Trujillo got to say the official “Play Ball!” announcement, James Hetfield got to sweep with the grounds crew and Kirk Hammett got to play “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” on guitar during the 7th inning stretch.
But the highlight of the night, was James and Kirk’s epic National Anthem performance prior to the start of the game. It’s become a tradition at the event, and this year was arguably the band’s best performance of the historic song! Nothing too flashy, just a good old-fashion cover!
