Man Attempts To Cover Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama”, Then This Happens… | Society Of Rock Videos

Oh, Sweet Home…

We expected a standard cover when we went to watch this man cover Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama but we were blown away by his skills with these strings. Granted the vocals are a bit hushed throughout the video, but you can tell that this guy has been playing the guitar for quite awhile and really knows what he is doing.

Acoustic renditions are probably our favorite when it comes to “Sweet Home” as they illuminate the true bluesy soul of the chords of this iconic, southern ballad.

“Sweet home Alabama, where the skies are so blue. Sweet home Alabama, Lord, I’m coming home to you, here I come.

Sweet Home Alabama” became one of Skynyrd’s biggest hits and was their first single to grace the charts, at Number 8 in 1974. This song is generally discussing Skynyrd’s interpretation of Alabama living, as well as a tribute to the Muscle Shoal Sound Studio musicians.

Fun Fact: At the beginning, when Ronnie Van Zant says, “Turn it up,” it was not planned. He was telling an engineer to turn up the volume in his headset before recording his track. The comment sounded good, so they left it in the final mix.

Although no one can touch the way that Ronnie belted this song from his heart, Al Robitaille does a great job of covering this legendary tune and we think Ronnie would be proud to hear his version. What do you think?

+ Sweet Home Alabama Lyrics +

Big wheels keep on turning
Carry me home to see my kin
Singing songs about the south-land
I miss ‘ole’ ‘bamy once again and I think it’s a sin

Well I heard Mister Young sing about her
Well I heard ole Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A southern man don’t need him around anyhow

Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home Alabama
Lord, I’m coming home to you

In Birmingham they love the Gov’nor, boo-hoo-hoo
Now we all did what we could do
Now Watergate does not bother me
Does your conscience bother you, tell the truth

Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home Alabama
Lord, I’m coming home to you, here I come

Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers
And they’ve been known to pick a song or two (yes they do)
Lord they get me off so much
They pick me up when I’m feeling blue, now how bout you?

Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home Alabama
Lord, I’m coming home to you

Sweet home Alabama, oh sweet home
Where the skies are so blue and the governor’s true
Sweet home Alabama
Lord, I’m coming home to you
