A Brilliant Masterpiece

Okay, there goes my jaw on the floor. It sounds so sublime, what utter perfection. And the clean notes just blew me away. How is it possible to fall in love with this isolated guitar track over and over again? This is what real talent sounds like. From the amazing tone and exquisite timing to Mark Knopfler’s musicality — it’s fascinating and phenomenal.

Knopfler also said in one interview:

“I thought it was dull, but as soon as I bought my first Strat in 1977, the whole thing changed, though the lyrics remained the same. It just came alive as soon as I played it on that ’61 Strat which remained my main guitar for many years and was basically the only thing I played on the first album and the new chord changes just presented themselves and fell into place.”

Listen to that vibrato. It’s astonishing and spine-tingling. And check out that riff at 5:14. It’s simply magical. You’re welcome.
