A Song For The Groupies

In ’77 Zeppelin destroyed the L.A. stage with hit “Sick Again” dedicated to all young women that would throw themselves physically and emotionally at the band as they toured the world.

“Clutching pages from your teenage dream in the lobby of the Hotel Paradise, through the circus of the L.A. queens, how fast your learn the downhill side…”

Having termed the specific group of L.A. women that were beyond an obsession for Led Zeppelin as GTO’s (Girls Together Outrageously ,) Plant, Bonham, Page and Jones had a large fan base that was predominately full of hungry women in which they were said to be irresponsible and quite reckless.

Interesting Quote: “If you listen to ‘Sick Again,’ a track from Physical Graffiti, the words show I feel a bit sorry for them. ‘Clutching pages from your teenage dream in the lobby of the Hotel Paradise/Through the circus of the L.A. queen how fast you learn the downhill slide.’ One minute she’s 12 and the next minute she’s 13 and over the top. Such a shame. They haven’t got the style that they had in the old days… way back in ’68.”- Robert Plant

Despite the many stories that have been passed around regarding the way that Zeppelin acted with these underage and immature women, it seems as though they reached the heart of Plant in these lyrics and he truly regrets the instances that took place- whatever they may be.

+ Sick Again Lyrics +

From the window of your rented limousine, I saw your pretty blue eyes
One day soon you’re gonna reach sixteen, Painted lady in the city of lies.

Oh, do you know my name? Do I look the same
You know I’m the one you want. I must be the one you need, yeah

Clutching pages from your teenage dream In the lobby of the Hotel Paradise
Through the circus of the L.A. queens. How fast your learn the downhill side

Oh, do you know my name? Do I look the same
You know I’m the one you want. I must be the one you need,.

Lips like cherries and the brow of a queen, Come on, flash it in my eyes
Said you dug me since you were thirteen,Then you giggle as you heave and sigh.

Oh, do you know my name? Do I look the same
You know I’m the one you want. I must be the one you need.

Hours, hours, and the moments in between, Oh, baby, I couldn’t count the times
the fun of comin’, oh the pain in leavin’, Baby, dry those silver eyes

Oh, do you know my name? Do I look the same
You know I’m the one you want. I must be the one you need,

Ooh, that’s right.
