Kirk Hammett Plays Jimi Hendrix
Kirk Rockin’ The Stage and Tipping His Hat To Jimi
In 1989, Metallica held a live concert in Seattle and during one of their performances, Kirk Hammett played one of Jimi Hendrix’s classic hits — “Little Wing.” It’s one of the most popular tracks from Jimi and countless musicians have covered the song. In addition, though people knew where Jimi got the inspiration to write the song, it’s also intriguing what he meant with the lyrics.
In discussing his lyrics, Jimi Hendrix was characteristically enigmatic. In a 1967 interview, he explained “Most ballads come across in different ways. Sometimes you see things in different ways than other people see it. So then you write it in a song. It could represent anything.”
This was a great tribute to one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Kirk has also made a name for himself by playing for Metallica. He was both lead guitarist and songwriter of the band. Man, this guy is simply talented — raw and powerful! He always slays it on stage which is unsurprising since he has received several recognition for his guitar skills and techniques:
- Ranked number 11 in “The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” list by the Rolling Stone Magazine
- Ranked number 5 in “The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists” by Joel McIver
Gotta love it when one legend covers the works of another. It’s amazing to watch and listen to!
