Kid Rock had a head start in Detroit, spending a whole decade honing his craft, perfecting his sound, and transforming from a scrappy hip-hop street kid into the swaggering rock-rap showman we know today.

This year marks a new chapter in Kid Rock’s career with his album, “No Limits.”

But getting to this point wasn’t a cakewalk. As a teenager, Kid Rock was dropped by his first record label. Disillusioned but driven by an insatiable thirst for fame, he returned to Detroit in the early ’90s, determined to make it on his terms, driven not by money but by the relentless pursuit of stardom.

Bob Ritchie, hailing from Romeo, Michigan, hustled relentlessly to grab the spotlight and shape himself into the Kid Rock known worldwide today.

In 1990, Ritchie, a 17-year-old rapper and DJ from Romeo, Michigan, was relatively unknown when he caught the eye of New York hip-hop label Jive Records.

They signed him, and that same year, he released his debut album, “Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast.” During his teen years, he honed his skills by performing at East Side house parties and making connections in Detroit’s emerging hip-hop scene. “Grits” showcased his Beastie Boys-inspired, bold, and brash rap style.
