Journey teased their new single “The Way We Used To Be” with a 26-second animated clip of the band which they posted across their social media accounts. The full track is set for release this Thursday.
It’s the first song to feature Journey’s new lineup that consists of guitarist Neal Schon, singer Arnel Pineda and keyboardist Jonathan Cain along with new members drummer Narada Michael Walden, returning bassist Randy Jackson and keyboardist and singer Jason Derlatka. Earlier this year, Schon revealed to Rolling Stone that they were writing and recording music for their upcoming album – the follow-up to 2011’s Eclipse. At the time, he said they already had 20 songs prepared.
“It’s coming along, man. It’s really shaping up,” Schon said. “Narada and I have been working nonstop. Jonathan is also working from his houses in Florida and Nashville. Arnel is working from Manila. Randy Jackson is working mostly from L.A. And it’s one of those Zoom sessions and it sounds phenomenal.”
“It sounds like we’re all playing in the room at the same time,” he added. “I actually can’t wait until we do get together and start putting the show together.”
Aside from the new record, Journey is also booked to perform several shows this year like Lollapalooza and the iHeart Music Festival in Las Vegas.
