John Lennon’s First Solo Show Featured On New “Revival69” Film

A documentary spotlighting John Lennon’s seminal solo performance outside of the Beatles is set to hit screens on June 28. Titled Revival69: The Concert That Rocked the World, the film captures Lennon’s electrifying show with the Plastic Ono Band on September 13, 1969. This momentous event unfolded as the Beatles were concluding the recording of their iconic album, Abbey Road.
Directed and produced by Ron Chapman, the documentary features footage shot by celebrated documentarian D.A. Pennebaker, renowned for his work on music documentaries such as Don’t Look Back, Monterey Pop, and Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. The concert showcased Lennon’s diverse repertoire, including covers of classics like “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Money (That’s What I Want),” and “Dizzy Miss Lizzy,” along with renditions of Beatles hits like “Yer Blues” and his solo tracks “Cold Turkey” and “Give Peace a Chance.”
Lennon was joined onstage by notable musicians such as Eric Clapton, Klaus Voormann, and Alan White, with Yoko Ono also making an appearance. The film provides insight into Lennon’s journey to the festival stage, alongside performances by rock ‘n’ roll pioneers like Bo Diddley and Jerry Lee Lewis. Interviews with notable figures like Alice Cooper, Robby Kreiger of the Doors, and Geddy Lee from Rush add depth to the documentary’s narrative.

The Revival69 documentary is part of a series of Beatles-themed films planned for release in 2024, including the long-awaited Let It Be documentary on Disney+ and four new biopics exploring the Beatles’ story from the perspective of each member.
Renowned filmmaker Sam Mendes, known for his work on American Beauty and the James Bond franchise, is spearheading these cinematic endeavors, promising an immersive experience for Beatles fans worldwide.
