A Match Made In Blues Heaven

When John Lee Hooker enlisted Bonnie Raitt for his 1989 album The Healer, we knew it would be a huge success; I mean after all, John was one of the greatest guitarists the blues had ever seen, and Bonnie is a triple threat as a tremendous singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Already engaged in a 20 year long flirtation, John and Bonnie’s duet ‘I’m In The Mood’ was a match made in heaven for these two, and this 1991 performance featuring the two shows both a fantastic friendship and incredible chemistry, believe it or not. Watching John and Bonnie jam together is nothing short of a good time; in fact, even the bass player behind them is having a great time!

Fun Fact: This won a Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Recording. It was the first for Hooker, and one of four Raitt won that night. Those were her first Grammys.

Bonnie is nothing short of gorgeous, and on slide guitar she’s an absolute dynamo as she holds her own against one of the biggest legends the blues had to offer; anyone else would have been nervous to the point of forgetting lyrics or notes, but never Bonnie. This moment onstage with her friend and idol was made for her, and she knew it!

+ I’m In The Mood lyrics +

I’m in the mood, I’m in the mood for love.
I’m in the mood, in the mood.
I’m in the mood for love.
I said, night time is the right time.
To be with the one you love.
You know when night come, baby God know.
You so far away.
I’m in the mood, I’m in the mood, I’m in the mood for love.
I’m in the mood, in the mood.
Baby, I’m in the mood for love.
(guitar solo & instrumental)
I said, yes my mother told me.
To leave that girl alone.
But my mother didn’t know.
What that girl was puttin’ down.
I’m in the mood, I’m in the mood, baby
I’m in the mood for love.
I’m in the mood, in the mood.
Baby, I’m in the mood for love.
