Gibson is celebrating 130 years of music history with something special for guitar fans. The legendary guitar maker has expanded its partnership with none other than Jimmy Page, the rock icon and co-founder of Led Zeppelin. Together, they’ve crafted the Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200 and the limited 1964 SJ-200 Collector’s Edition. This release is designed to capture the very essence of Page’s unique sound and style. For this exclusive release, only 50 Collector’s Editions and 100 of the Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200s will be available globally through Gibson dealers and on Gibson.com.
A Guitar Rooted in Rock History
Jimmy Page’s love for the Gibson SJ-200 guitar goes way back. He used a mid-60s model to record Led Zeppelin’s debut album and also performed with it on the Julie Felix Show in 1970, playing “White Summer/Black Mountain Side.” This reissue pays homage to that iconic guitar, bringing Page’s classic sound to life.
Each of the 100 Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200s and the 50 Collector’s Editions are handmade by Gibson’s Custom Shop luthiers in Bozeman, Montana. Gibson’s Murphy Lab then applied light aging techniques to give each guitar a vintage feel, creating an authentic tribute to the original. “Every detail has been thoughtfully rendered to Jimmy Page’s exacting standards,” notes Gibson, making these guitars a genuine slice of rock history.
Craftsmanship that Makes a Difference
The 1964 SJ-200 and the exclusive Collector’s Edition showcase fine materials and expert craftsmanship. The body of each guitar is built from highly flamed AAA maple for the back and sides and AAA Sitka spruce for the top. The guitars sport a Super Jumbo body with multi-ply binding on both top and back. Slightly deeper at the neck joint than a standard SJ-200, these guitars create a sound profile that’s truly one-of-a-kind.
With a 3-piece, flamed maple neck, the guitar has a comfortable Round profile, paired with a bound rosewood fretboard and 20 frets. The fretboard includes mother-of-pearl Graduated Crown inlays, adding to its vintage charm. There’s also a ’60s-style rosewood Moustache bridge plate, adorned with mother-of-pearl inlays, while the gold Tune-O-Matic bridge with nylon saddles contributes to its unique tone.
The attention to detail doesn’t end there. The Collector’s Edition guitars feature a bound headstock with vintage-inspired Kluson Waffleback tuners and Keystone buttons, bringing that authentic 1960s look and feel to each instrument.
Special Touches from Jimmy Page
Each guitar in this series has been given the Jimmy Page touch. The legendary guitarist himself played each instrument, using various tunings and jamming to songs from his iconic catalog. Page was deeply involved in every aspect, from sound and playability to the Cherry Tea sunburst finish that gives the guitar its eye-catching look. Every Collector’s Edition guitar has been personally signed by Jimmy Page on the rear of the headstock, making it a true collector’s item.
The package also includes a custom Gibson hardshell case featuring Page’s signature Zoso logo, along with an extra Tune-O-Matic bridge with gold-plated brass saddles, a Zoso Certificate of Authenticity, and “The Garden” vintage-style strap. For those who purchase the Collector’s Edition, a custom pickholder with a pick used by Page and a handcrafted wooden guitar stand are also included. It’s a collection built to honor both Page’s legacy and Gibson’s dedication to excellence.
This limited release is truly a piece of music history and a tribute to one of rock’s greatest guitarists. With only 150 guitars in total—50 in the Collector’s Edition and 100 in the Jimmy Page 1964 SJ-200 edition—this run is for true fans and collectors alike.
