Auction Starts Next Week For 1965 Porsche Of Janis Joplin
Record breaking sales are expected as next week Janis Joplin’s car is to go on auction. The iconic rock front-woman’s 1965 356 Porsche has been featured in many photo shoots through out her career and is regarded as one of the most recognizable vehicles in rock history. Although many hardcore fans would see such an artifact as invaluable, it is set to go on auction at Sotheby’s next week. One interesting thing is that it was used when she bought and let Dave Richards paint all over it with jellyfish and butterflies.
Some estimate the car will sell for at least $500,000!!
She bought the car in 1968, it still runs today, and the art has been beautifully restored. This was an actual driver for Joplin, not just something to look at. The auction will also feature 30 other cars with a collected value exceeding $90 million. That’s insane.
