Guns N’ Roses Live At The Ritz

When Guns N’ Roses performed at The Ritz in 1988, no one expected it to go down in history as one of the band’s best performances – but it did! With the combination of frontman Axl Rose’s magnetic stage presence and a catalog of hits including their cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’, Guns N’ Roses was absolutely unstoppable that night – and rightly so!

Written by Bob Dylan in 1973 for the Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid soundtrack, ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’ is a ballad written from the perspective of a dying sheriff.

Guns N’ Roses featured their cover on 1991’s Use Your Illusion II and to date, it’s the most famous version – beating out the original by leaps and bounds!

This performance is Guns N’ Roses at the height of their career and Axl Rose has honestly never been better. He’s as electric as always, and seems a little more carefree and determined to have a great time onstage with the rest of his band.

It’s hard to believe that this was over 27 years ago – the golden era of Guns N’ Roses seems so far away and yet it feels like yesterday with videos like this!

Mama, take this badge from me
I can’t use it any more
It’s getting dark, too dark to see
I’m feelin’ like I’m knocking on Heaven’s door

Knock, knock, knocking on Heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knocking on Heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knocking on Heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knocking on Heaven’s door

Mama, put my guns in the ground
I can’t shoot them any more
That long cold black cloud is coming down
I’m feelin’ like I’m knocking on Heaven’s door

Knock, knock, knocking on Heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knocking on Heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knocking on Heaven’s door, ooh yeah
Knock, knock, knocking on Heaven’s door

Baby stay right here with me
‘Cause I can’t see you anymore
This ain’t the way it’s supposed to be
I feel I’m knocking on heaven’s door

Son won’t you remember me?
I can’t be with you anymore
A lawman’s life is never free
I feel I’m knocking on heaven’s door
