Grace Slick Slows Down This Rare, Unreleased “Somebody To Love” Version

Before the beautiful Grace Slick joined forces with Jefferson Airplane, she “graced” the stage with a band known as The Great Society in the early 1960s.

“Don’t you want somebody to love, don’t you need somebody to love? Wouldn’t you love somebody to love? You better find somebody to love.”

Grace’s brother-in- law, Darby Slick, actually wrote this song for her to perform with The Great Society and as you will hear it is a bit slower than the version she ended up releasing with Jefferson.

Interesting Fact: A comic version was performed by Jim Carrey in his movie The Cable Guy. It was released as a single, but flopped.

Having left the fashion world as a retired model, Grace decided to follow her voice to the stage which eventually led her to Jefferson Starships as one of the greatest Woodstock performances of 69.
