A Place Of Solitude

Following the theme of staying true to one’s self in the face of fame and fortune, Gavin DeGraw once again rises above the hype of the pop world with a powerful message in his official “Chariot” music video. Relating to the iconic and timeless song “Swing Low Sweet Chariot,” Gavin’s “Chariot” channels a physical and mobile manifestation of escape from all of the burdens in the materialistic world in an attempt to once again center himself.

The video was directed by the TV star Zach Braff, who stared on the TV show Scrubs as well as the movies Garden State and The Last Kiss.

Starting out at a piano in a dive bar, Gavin displays the hectic and fast- paced process of being picked up by a label with rushed contract signing, wild parties with half- naked girls swooning, stacks of money and high- profile celebrity friends to call “friends.” That is, until it all comes to a halt when things go awry and Gavin finds a moment to escape the lifestyle he knows is not right for him.

As another piece of Gavin’s personal history, he decided to scribe this after making his big move from the Catskill Mountains to New York on a whim to pursue his musical dreams. Totally unaware of his fate in the industry, Gavin felt comfort in creating a “Chariot” that could carry him back to the safe, familiar world he left behind…
