The Foo Fighters have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility.
“The best thing about being here tonight is being surrounded by our family,” frontman Dave Grohl said in his acceptance speech. “When I say that, if anybody knows how the Foo Fighters work, the people we work with, we stick with them the last 15, 20, 25 years … and I think that’s important.”
“So there’s a whole extended family over here that I have to thank,” he continued. “I have to thank these people, because we wouldn’t be here tonight if it wasn’t for each one of these Foo Fighters and we did it.”
Before the speech, however, the band performed a three-song that featured “Best of You”, “My Hero”, and their signature song “Everlong.
Paul McCartney inducted Foo Fighters, and after the members received their award, Macca joined them on stage to wrap up the show witha cover of The Beatles’ “Get Back”.
“Everyone who knows, everyone who’s connected with it, everyone who loves rock ‘n’ roll, it really is a magical thing that contains so many elements,” McCartney said. “Like all of the people we’ve heard tonight, I mean, it’s just unbelievable, yeah? So I feel super-privileged to be here tonight, inducting these guys.”
