Christmas Blues

Singin’ the Christmas blues in ’98 is a soulful Eric Clapton on TV Special A Very Special Christmas Live In Washington. Although this is heartbreaking blues ballad about lost love on Christmas, we really can’t help but smile when hear Clapton do his thing, channelling the depths of his soul on stage.

Interesting Fact: In 1998, he opened a drug and alcohol rehab center in Antigua called Crossroads. Clapton always loved the island, and thought its serenity and isolation were a perfect place for a treatment program.

Originally “Christmas Tears” was blues legend Freddie King’s Christmas anthem, written and recorded in 1961 at Federal Records. Freddie was often referred to as “one of the three kings,” matched with Albert King and BB King, some of the greatest blues artists the world has ever known.

Being huge fans of both blues heroes, we appreciate the complexity and mastery of this song lyrically and musically and it really is one of Clapton’s more underrated jams. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
