Eric Clapton – “Outside Woman Blues” (ACOUSTIC)

“Great God, Don’t Lose Your Mind”
I don’t think there’s anything Eric Clapton can’t do. His live performances are a sight to behold and definitely a once in a lifetime experience, but it’s something else completely when he deviates and goes back to his blues roots! This acoustic performance features Eric going back to his roots with ‘Outside Woman Blues’, the blues standard written in 1929 but made popular by Cream in 1967 and somehow, somehow, it’s even better when performed with just Eric and his acoustic guitar.
‘Outside Woman Blues’ is a blues song originally recorded by Blind Joe Reynolds in 1929. It is one of few known recordings made by Reynolds, who used “Woman Blues” in several song titles, including ‘Cold Woman Blues’, ‘Goose Hill Woman Blues’, and ‘Third Street Woman Blues’.
This performance is amazing – it’s incredibly intimate, full of soul, and embodies everything we’ve come to love about the blues, yet Eric Clapton still manages to retain his signature sound. That’s what I love about Clapton after all these years; the fact that his style has become so easily recognizable.
This may just be a cover, but you can still hear Eric in every single note paying tribute to another blues legend!
+ Outside Woman Blues lyrics +
If you lose your money, great God, don’t lose your mind
If you lose your money, great God, don’t lose your mind
And if you lose your woman, please don’t fool with mine
I’m gonna buy me a bulldog, watch my lady whilst I sleep
I’m gonna buy me a bulldog, watch my lady whilst I sleep
‘Cause women these days, they’re so doggone crooked
That they might make off ‘fore day creep
Well, you can’t watch your wife and your outside women, too
You know you can’t watch your wife and your outside womens, too
‘Cause when you’re out with your women, your wife will be at home
Cooking your food, doing a dirt, buddy what you trying to do?
You can’t watch your wife and your outside women, too
You know you can’t watch your wife and your outside women, too
When you’re out with your women, your wife will be at home
Doing a dirt, cooking your food, buddy what you trying to do?
