Eric Clapton feat. Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page – “Layla”

Three Legends, One Stage!
These legends are great on their own, but together they’re something else entirely! In 1988, Eric Clapton was joined by friends Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page for an all-star performance of Clapton’s ‘Layla’, the song that made his infatuation with George Harrison’s wife public knowledge. I’ve never seen this many people onstage for one performance, but it works – suddenly, it feels more like these former Yardbirds are having an impromptu jam session with their friends instead of performing in front of a packed house!
All 3 Guitarists Are In The Top 5 Of Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Guitarists Of All Time List.
Eric Clapton comes in at #2, with Jimmy Page trailing at #3 and Jeff Beck at #5 on the list.
What makes this performance so amazing is the fact that you can hear each guitarist’s influence; while it’s bluesy enough to be undeniably Clapton, there’s a little Led Zeppelin in there with Jimmy’s more experimental style of playing and Jeff Beck rounds out the trio with a little bit of The Yardbirds’ influence, too!
+ Layla lyrics +
What’ll you do when you get lonely
And nobody’s waiting by your side?
You’ve been running and hiding much too long
You know it’s just your foolish pride
Layla, you’ve got me on my knees
Layla, I’m begging, darling please
Layla, darling won’t you ease my worried mind
I tried to give you consolation
When your old man had let you down
Like a fool, I fell in love with you,
Turned my whole world upside down
Layla, you’ve got me on my knees
Layla, I’m begging, darling please
Layla, darling won’t you ease my worried mind
Let’s make the best of the situation
Before I finally go insane
Please don’t say I’ll never find a way
And tell me all my love’s in vain
Layla, you’ve got me on my knees
Layla, I’m begging, darling please
Layla, darling won’t you ease my worried mind
Layla, you’ve got me on my knees
Layla, I’m begging, darling please
Layla, darling won’t you ease my worried mind
