Eric Burdon Dedicates “House Of The Rising Sun” Performance To Lost Band Mates

Eric Burdon Dedicates “House Of The Rising Sun” Performance To Lost Band Mates | Society Of Rock Videos

Remembering The Lost

Like no time has passed at all, lead singer of The Animals, Eric Burdon, rocks our all- time favorite “The House Of The Rising Sun” 50 years (to the day/month) they recorded it in 1964. Starting out with an absolutely stunning acoustic solo from guitarist Billy Watts, the crowd gets really into the spirit of the concert and reminisces on their childhood memories listening to this iconic band.

“There is a house in New Orleans, they call the ‘Rising Sun’ and it’s been the ruin of many a young poor boy, and, God, I know I’m one…”

Eric sounds just the same as we remember him our first time listening to this song and this performance is a great example of how rock never dies and age doesn’t ever dictate talent.

Interesting Fact: The Animals began as a Jazz group with Burdon on trombone. Partly because Burdon was a lousy player, he switched to vocals and they became a rock group.

Just 50 years ago, this exact month, “The House Of The Rising Sun” hit #1 in the charts in the UK and lived on to be recorded, covered and forever remembered.

Rock on forever Eric!

+ The House Of The Rising Sun Lyrics +

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the ‘Rising Sun’
And it’s been the ruin of many a young poor boy
And, God, I know I’m one

My mother was a tailor
Sewed my new blue jeans
My father was a gamblin’ man
Down in New Orleans
Now the only thing he ever needs
Is a suitcase and a trunk
And the only time he’s satisfied
Is when he’s on a drunk

Oh, Mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun
With one foot on the platform
And the other foot on the train
I know he’s back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain

Well there is a house in New Orleans
They call the ‘Rising Sun’
And its been the ruin of many a young poor boy
And God, I know I’m one
