Unreleased & Unfinished
This insanely RARE recording was released and authorized by guitarist Gary Rossington as Ronnie and the boys jammed out to lost Skynyrd hit “Cottonmouth Country.”
Interesting Quote: “It’s a cool track, pretty cool lyrics — it’s about the swamps. And we never put it out with (producer) Al Kooper on the first or second album. We just kind of let it sit there and never finished it. It’s pretty well done, but the recording isn’t as good as it could be. So we might put that out as a bonus track — a whole new Skynyrd song nobody’s heard.” – Gary Rossington
In an attempt to execute this living room recording MCA demo, you can hear Ronnie say “cut..cut, cut, cut” at the end of the take. Gary Rossington also added:
“We’re not doing a country album but Skynyrd’s always had a little bit of country blood in us. That’s where we come from.”

Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of those bands who really deliver the goods. They’re all about churning out great music while still ensuring they don’t stray away from their roots. Through the years, they have remained an influential group that has stood the test of time – even their popular hits are being covered by younger musicians today. Their influence is also enduring – something that’s not easy to achieve.
From the very archives of Skynyrd, this intimate recording reveals life on the swamps with Ronnie on vocals, Leon Wilkerson on bass and Bob Burns on the drums and it will allow you to embrace him from the grave. This will hit you right in the feels. Enjoy the song!
