David Byrne graced Saturday Night Live on February 29 where he performed two epic tracks – the Talking Heads classic “Once in a Lifetime” and The Brighton Port Authority collaboration “Toe Jam.” The episode was hosted by John Mulaney. You can watch the two performances below.
Byrne also appeared as the “Baggage Handler Who Tosses Everyone’s Suitcase Into Long Island Sound” in a comedy sketch titled “Airport Sushi.” It later segued into a version of Talking Heads’ “Road to Nowhere” which included a cameo from Jake Gyllenhaal.
Byrne’s American Utopia residency on Broadway has just been extended for 17 weeks and will return to the Hudson Theatre this September following the massive success of the first run. The second run opens on September 18 and closes on January 17. In a press release, Byrne said: “It’s become obvious to us in the band, the crew and the producer team that audiences want, dare I say need? To see this show. They’re not ready to have it disappear just yet. We feel the same way, we love doing this show. So, it’s thrilling to us that we can announce that we’ll be back in September.”
The release date of its filmed version will be announced later this year.
