In the ongoing legal dispute between the successful musical duo of Daryl Hall and John Oates, more details have come to light.

Hall initiated legal action and secured a restraining order against his fellow musician after discovering Oates’ intention to sell his share of their joint venture to Primary Wave, a music company.

Hall’s and Accusations Against Oates

According to recently revealed court documents, Hall expressed feeling “blindsided” by Oates’ decision to sell, emphasizing that any such transaction would require his approval. Hall accused Oates of deliberately timing the decision to coincide with the start of Hall’s latest tour, alleging an attempt to “ambush” and distract him to cause maximum harm.

Within the documents, Hall clarified his disinterest in partnering with Primary Wave, citing concerns about the company’s reputation for exploiting copyrights and trademarks. He stated:

“I have no intention of becoming partners with Primary Wave, and [Oates] cannot be permitted to thrust a new partner upon me in this outrageous fashion.”

What’s Next?

The presiding judge has temporarily halted Oates’ sale to Primary Wave, allowing legal proceedings to unfold.

Reports indicate that Primary Wave already owns a portion of the Hall & Oates catalog through a previous, undisclosed agreement dating back over a decade. An initial court hearing for the dispute is scheduled for November 30.
