RIP Cory Wells…

The one and only Cory Wells, singer of Three Dog Night, who unfortunately passed just a few weeks ago due to a multiple myeloma infection, had what has to be the greatest sense of humor we have ever seen. Trying to be hip, happening and cool, Cory decided to come up with an alternate version “2012 style” because a fan approached him and told him that “Mama Told Me Not To Come” was “the great great granddad of rap of music.

“Mama told me not to come, mama told me not to come. That ain’t the way to have fun,no, uh uh…”

Sporting some silly shades, a fresh, sideways cap and a more modern sense of “today’s music,” Cory begins to remix the original lyrics of “Mama Told Me” with some yo, yo, yo’s and some surprisingly great rapping that we were very impressed with! It’s honestly one of the funniest things we have ever seen and we miss him so much more after watching it….

Interesting Fact: “Mama Told Me Not To Come” was written by Randy Newman, the nephew of Academy Award-winning composer Lionel Newman.

Now, before you get too heartbroken, Three Dog brings it home with the great, original version that we all know and love and they couldn’t be better! Also, please excuse the intoxicated man that was recording this with his slight outbursts- we can tell he’s a really huge fan of the band and we don’t blame him!

Rest in peace Cory Wells…. you are forever missed as a true and talent voice of the generation.

+ Mama Told Me Not To Come Lyrics +

Will you have whiskey with your water
Or sugar in your tea ?
What’s all these crazy questions
That you’re askin’ of me

This is the craziest party
There could ever be
Don’t turn on the lights
‘Cause I don’t want to see

Mama told me not to come
Mama told me not to come
That ain’t the way to have fun,no, uh uh
Open up the window

Let some air into this room
I think I’m almost chokin’
From the smell of stale perfume
And that cigarette you’re smokin’

About to scare me half to death
Oh open up the window sucker
Let me catch my breath

Mama told me not to come
Mama told me not to come
That ain’t the way to have fun,son
That ain’t the way to have fun,son

The radio is blastin’
Someone’s knockin’ at the door
I’m lookin’ at my girl friend she passed out on the floor
I’ve seen so many things
I ain’t never seen before
I don’t know what it is
I don’t want to see no more

Mama told me not to come
Mama told me not to come
She said that ain’t the way to have fun son
That ain’t the way to have fun NO!

Mama told me
Mama told me
Mama told me
