Chris Broderick Reveals Reason For Leaving Megadeth — It Might Not Be What You Think

What Really Happened?
While most people were surprised at Chris Broderick’s sudden departure from iconic band Megadeth, there were those who sort of saw it coming. Nevertheless, the show must go on and while new members have joined alongside frontman Dave Mustaine, they’d be performing their old-school songs during tours. Anyway, if you can still remember what happened in 2014, it was mere hours apart when Chris and drummer Shawn Drover both announced they were leaving Megadeth.
In a recent interview, Chris finally speaks up about his “artistic and musical differences” with Dave. So what would’ve made him stay? If he was at least given some creative freedom. He further tells Ultimate Guitar:
“I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily artistic and musical differences as much as it is the ability to express my musical and artistic choices. Everybody knows that Megadeth is really Dave and that’s fine. But there comes a time where you’re like, ‘I’ve done this and it’s great, but I’m a musician and artist at heart and I need to express myself that way.’ So I need to have that outlet for myself and not just do it in support of another person.”
In fact, there are riffs in his debut album with his new band Act of Defiance which he suggested to Dave but was consequently rejected. Anyway, Chris is back on the road with tour dates up to June 25.
