We surrender!

Back in 2013, Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen stopped by Studio 606 in Los Angeles, CA to contribute to the recording of the collaboration album Sound City. For the album, Nielsen teamed up with Foo Fighters frontman Dave GrohlSlipknot lead singer Cory Taylor and Kyus bassist Scott Reeder and recorded a track titled “From Can to Can’t.” During the recording of the song, Nielsen picks up Grohl’s guitar and shreds an unbelievable, face-melting solo that leaves everyone in the studio with their jaw on the floor!

Nielsen’s solo includes incredibly fast chord progressions, ear piercing hammer-ons and an incredible skill of string bending!

What makes this so awesomely perfect, is that Nielsen completely improvises this solo. Producer Butch Vig presses record, and the Cheap Trick axeman goes to town and adds that “Rick Nielsen flare” to this already star-studded track. One of the best moments is at the end when Grohl cries out, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY GUITAR!?”, and Neilsen pokes fun at Grohl by simply replying, “Finally playing it!” I think we’d all be incredibly honored to let the great Rick Nielsen give our guitars a proper playing if we had the chance!
